The best you could expect in road standards between Edinburgh and London in 1968 were stretches of dual carriagway on the A1. Motorways were still limited to the M1 - but to offset that, the traffic wasn't as heavy then as it is now. It took us just over 11 hours to get to London. We had a drive/look round central London - on a hot summer afternoon. Great! It was on this trip that I got my fascination for London - not knowing then that I would live/work there for a couple of years at the beginning of the 1970s.
From London we headed for Kent to camp at a site near Brands Hatch.
Day 2
The day was spent at Brands Hatch - at the Festival of Minis: racing; procession of Minis of all shapes and sizes and a Red Arrows display. Another scorching day. From there, we headed for a camp site near Dover - to be ready for an early ferry crossing next morning.
