GRAND(ISH) TOUR OF EUROPE - 1968

Facts and Figures

Just over a 3,000 mile round trip - the circuitous outward route added 300 miles. But it didn't add anything to our costs - as fuel had always been more expensive in France and the greater distance round the outside was offset by cheaper fuel in the other countries.

By 2003 standards the costs are ridiculous. We split the costs and my share was: petrol £13; ferry £9; camp sites £2; food/drink £6; insurance £4; car consumables £3. Not bad: 2 weeks holiday in France for £37!

En route we: greased the rear suspension, dried the electrics, adjusted the brakes, gave the car a 1,000 mile service, repaired a brake fluid leak, searched (unsuccessfully) for a lost petrol cap.
